2025 U.S Government Shutdown Update

A U.S. government shutdown happens when Congress fails to pass enough funding bills (or a temporary funding measure called a continuing resolution) for federal agencies and programs.

I made another article about 2025 U.S Government Shutdown http://dorianfinance.com/2025-u-s-government-shutdown.

Updates

VA Education Benefits.

I work at University in Financial Aid & I’m VA SCO/point of contact. I have to call VA directly daily to check if new student are really have VA benefits or not. The VA student most affected are Veteran Readiness And Employment (Chapter 31) & CH 35 Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA).

Chapter 31: Veteran Readiness and Employment (VRE), a VA program that helps veterans with service-connected disabilities prepare for and maintain suitable employment. Eligibility generally includes having a qualifying disability rating and an employment handicap.

Survivors’ & Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA), also called Chapter 35, is a VA program that provides education benefits to eligible spouses and children of veterans who are deceased, missing in action, or 100% disabled due to service-connected conditions. It can offer up to 36 months of support for schooling such as college, career training, apprenticeships, or on-the-job programs. Benefit amounts vary by training type and enrollment level, with full-time students receiving the highest monthly payments.

Both cases CH 31 & CH 35 their VA benefits are delay because of the U.S Government shutdown.

Federal Employees.

From Ourpublicservice.org. “During a shutdown, federal employees generally fall into three categories: those whose salaries are financed through means other than annual appropriations and who continue to work and be paid; those who are furloughed; and those who continue to work without pay, also known as “excepted” employees. Neither furloughed nor excepted employees receive pay for the duration of a shutdown, although a law passed in 2019 guarantees these employees receive back pay once a shutdown ends.”

I have a friend currently serving in the Military which they work 60 hours a week. I asked if they are getting paid thru the Government shutdown. They stated no. I asked how they are handling it and they stated that they had to get 3 credit cards to cover expenses such as phone bill and car.

SNAP Program

People are reporting not getting their SNAP benefits and they having to cancel their family trip. This is causing many people to get anger toward Government and people who are getting SNAP because many working class people cannot go on trip and paying taxes without any benefits.
